Dave Green

Hi, I'm Dave Green, and on the co-host of the Magic Numbers, and regular contributor to the request shows. I started at Southend Hospital Radio during autumn 2004. I'd heard of it through a radio course, taught at a local college.

I was on request duty for a few weeks when I turned up one week to find that no one who could operate the studio equipment had turned up. So having had a few lessons in the operation of the studio, I became the host that night. Thrown in at the deep end, to say the least!

My role here is as request collector on various evenings, and as co-host of the Magic Numbers, Sunday nights 8 till 10 PM. It's a show that I absolutely love, the biggest variety of music you'll hear on any broadcast. The format changes regularly to keep it fresh, but the factor behind it has always been simply to play good music, and I hope I am succeeding in doing that. Now that my best mate here at the station, Jemma George, is a co-host, the show will go from strength to strength.

My motivation to start here, was initially to learn more about radio production, something which had been interested for a long time. But moreover, my motivation was, and still is, to provide some much-needed entertainment of the patients at the hospital.

You can have your MP3 and DVD players, but there's nothing to really compare with the sound of someone putting on a radio show. That is made with a specific audience in mind.

The fact that we all volunteer to do this shows that we love radio and love entertaining the patients, who, let's face it, need the entertainment.
